Youth Forum

Our students had the opportunity to attend the Divisional Youth Forum with Mme Rachelle. The purpose of the Youth Forum is to bring together student leaders from all elementary schools across the Division and engage them in conversations about environmental action.

Devon, Jack, Jersey and Hailey are now charged and ready to share what they learned with our Student Voice team and will lead the way to working towards taking care of the environment and each other.

They should be so proud!

Spooktacular Storytime

A big thank-you to Laurel Rose, all the volunteers, Mme Joanne and all the Grade four and five students who read "Spooky Stories" to groups during the spectacular "Spooktacular" event.

The "Spooky Story Pit" was a big hit and many, many students rotated through it to listen to the older students read aloud. What an excellent way to incorporate the excitement of Halloween with literacy.

Thanks again!

We are counting plastic bags!

Today some of grade five patrol supervisors began counting plastic bags because we have been collecting them for the "Plastic Bag Round-Up Challenge" that promotes recycling in an effort to take care of our environment.

Please continue sending in plastic bags. We have until November 1st to collect them. The more the merrier!

Our first "Nids" assembly, 2013

Today we held our first Nest assembly of the year! It was very exciting for students to get together with other students from other classes. The goal of these Nest groups is to promote peace and positive relationships amongst all students and staff; that everyone comes to school and feels safe, cared for and confident and take the risks necessary for learning.

Our Youth Forum Leaders also took some time to explain their role and to share how a Student Voice team with members from each class will be formed. The goal of the Student Voice team will be to work together to plan school-wide activities in an effort to promote "Making Our World a Better Place." Bravo to our Youth Forum Leaders...You should be proud!

Our Nest assembly ended with a big Bannatyne welcome to all our new students!

"A Day Made Better" for Mme Katie

Congratulations Mme Katie!

Mme Katie received an award called "A Day Made Better" sponsored by Office Max and Grand & Toy.

Mme Katie was one of six nation-wide recipients of an award including a chair and a box full of fantastic supplies for her classroom. She was surprised this morning at 10:00 am in a school-wide assembly. We were thrilled to have representation from our School Division at the event; Thank-you Mr. Mutter, Assistant Superintendent as well as Deidre Sagert, Partner with the Parent Child Coalition, who came to support our school, community and Mme Katie. A very special thanks as well to Colleen Morrison who nominated her and was in attendance this morning.

The event was a secret and a surprise to everyone. Thank-you Mme Malcolmson and Mme Rachelle who helped me keep this a special surprise for Mme Katie!

In her words before the entire student body, staff and community, Mme Katie shared her honour with her colleagues and students. She is very, very deserving and we are all so proud!
